Rainbow Pillow

Untitled
Miss E decided that she MUST have a pillow to sleep on during nap time at school.  This from the child who NEVER takes a nap.  I had been brainstorming with her teachers as to how to entertain her while the other children nap so that she stops waking them all up and was willing to try anything.
As a test she brought in her Sweet Dream Pillow one day and she actually fell asleep = miracle.  It was such a success that her teachers begged me to make one for school...  No surprise she requested something "rainbow colored" and luckily I had leftover charms from when I made her Rainbow Quilt!

I even decided to sew the seam by machine on the exterior in order to ensure that it is extra ready for rough schoolday action.  Miss E took a pause while running around with her birthday streamers to stuff the pillow and "give it a test run"...

Then, of course, it was back to running...

Lush Cluster Revival

Untitled
I swear to all that is sewing holy that I am not avoiding my sewing machine...I promise that the fabric fast has not got me on the run.  It is simply that events as of late have led me to revisit some of my other hobbies.

Once upon a time, in what now seems like another life, I used to own a jewelry business called Lush Cluster.  Well technically I still own it I just don't sell anything anymore.  It became an awful burden as what had begun as a fun creative thing to do in my free time became an all consuming drive to mass produce objects that other people would buy.  Instead of making things I thought were beautiful, funky, fun, I began making them with the sole purpose of making a profit.  Totally ruined my love of jewelry-making.  So, after moving to Far Far Away I essentially packed up my jewelry goods and let it all collect dust.

But recently a friend asked me to show her how to make earrings...I dragged everything out in order to teach her and ended up coming across all the fun shiny things I used to make.  A tiny bit of nostalgia and the need to create set in.  I don't know what this means, maybe this will only last a little while and maybe I will only make things for my own personal use but, whatever happens I am resigned not to make a grand plan that might end up ruining it for me again...  I'm a creator not a businesswoman and I learned that lesson the hard way.

Because I used my sewing table to spread out the jewelry supplies I needed to put it all away in order to get back down to sewing business.  But before I did I decided to make myself a pair of little shiny somethings... Untitled

Looks like I'm still smiling.  As long as that remains true I am keeping the jewelry making supplies close at hand in my studio.

Fabriholics Anonymous January Check-In!

FabAnon
Okay my fabric fasting chickadees...now is the time to check in and let us know how it is going!
I, for one, am happy to report that things are going swimmingly as far as my fabric lust is going...but that is mostly attributable to the fact that I am crazy busy these days with other things not fabric related.  For those of you who follow my blog regularly you probably have seen a lot of silence recently...
However, that isn't to say I am completely without sewing...I have been working on the rainbow jellyroll quilt, and I also moved things around in my sewing room which was a major time suck but well worth it as I feel that the chi in my studio is much better.  It also allowed me to find fabrics that I had forgotten about and re-prioritize what project is next.
So what have you been up to?
Jess has started a Flickr group for us all to post photos, show each other support, and even start a fabric swap.  We can't buy fabric...but no one said we couldn't swap or destash it!

Your marching orders are as follows...
1. Join the Flickr group so we can all play and share photos.
[Yes I am pulling the peer pressure card.  ;)]

2. Link up your January update below...

3. After linking up please visit (at least) two other members above you so that we can share with each other our undying support during this fabric fasting fiasco!

And here is a little fabric something I made and am not sure what to do with...but we couldn't have an empty post now could we?
A sneak peek
If you have no idea what I am talking about feel free to learn more about Fabriholics Anonymous by going here...

The below zero weather we have been experiencing resulted in a dinner table discussion about frostbite and the importance of hats and scarves.  It reminded me of the hood/cowl patterns I had purchased for each girl from The Velvet Acorn.  I particularly liked these patterns because they cover the head and the neck area...functioning more like a cowl than just a regular hat.
This particular bunny hood was for Miss O, size 12-18mo from the pattern, but it is a rather large for 12-18 mos and falls over her eyes so she has refused to wear it.  Luckily Miss V, age 3, was willing to demonstrate the hood for me and be my model...
I am debating which size to make for Miss V, the 12-18 seems perfect right now but I'd like her to be able to use it next year.  Perhaps the toddler size will be just right to grow into.  I'll let you know!

Quick and Simple Rainbow

Untitled
A few days ago I was standing in my studio feeling overwhelmed by this list and unmotivated to jump in.  Sometimes I am faced with a smothering feeling of "why bother, I won't finish it anyway..."  Such is the oppressive feeling I have when I look at my unfinished Marcelle Medallion which has taken up an almost permanent residence on my design wall...  Sigh.

So, I decided to follow my gut, ignore my daunting list and do something quick, easy, simple.  I grabbed a Kona Cotton New Bright Pattern Jellyroll and whipped up a rainbow.  After all, who can really argue against the beauty of a rainbow or the simplicity of a strip quilt?

Marcelle is still there...beautifully patient...she knows I will get to her when I am damn good and ready!
