The Thought Process

After my last stamp post I knew I wouldn't be able to live with myself until I had *fixed* my feather.  Helen, one of the admins of the Stamp it Up Swap, asked if other people's opinions meant that much to me and I explained no - but my opinion sure does!  And I just couldn't stop seeing leaf after my first stamp.  So I had to try again...  Miss E still calls this improved stamp a leaf - hahaha - but this time I don't mind because I am much happier with the result!

I started messing around and wanted to pair the feather with flying geese, kind of a inside quilter's joke.

But once I paired the two together I was kind of leaning more towards the geese on their own!

There were so many options with the geese stamp that I spent all of my weekend playing around with that!  And to think, I've never even sewn a flying geese quilt in my life.

I hope my swap partner likes it!

The Pod Swaddler

This photo of Miss O is from months ago (sniff) but it was so adorable I wanted to share again.  In this photo you can see her sporting an awesome wrap snuggly thing...made with ALL Anna Maria Horner of course.

I made it when Miss L was a baby and it is truly amazing.  My only wish is that I had it for all three babes.  It alleviated the frustration of refolding a swaddling blanket at 4am in the morning, they needed their arms contained or they woke themselves up hitting themselves in the face, plus it allowed the baby a snug wrap they could grow into - one size fits all.  Unfortunately, I did a search and it looks like the Etsy shop I bought the pattern from is no longer around!  Only this Flickr group seems to still exist...

When my girlfriend found out she was pregnant I just had to make her one!  Excuse the wrinkled photos, I had already folded it for wrapping and was storing it in my sewing room pre-photo shoot!

The original pattern was a little rough and left all the edges raw.  It always bothered me on my swaddler so I decided to upgrade the pattern a little and properly finished the edges topstitches and all.

I used the rolled hem foot on my Juki for the first time.  It was AMAZING!  I am going to pretty much use it for everything possible now...  S-e-w e-a-s-y.

And now it is all gifted up for my friend who I hope will wear it out with all the baby love in the world!

Is this a Feather to you?

I was recently doing some Flickr stalking when Nicky invited me to check out the Stamp it Up Swap.  And, because I am game to try anything at least once (okay, not bungee jumping-type things, but textile-type things anyway) I decided to give it a go!

My biggest challenge is figuring out the subject matter for my stamp.  Everyone else is making these cute things and I am just stumped.  Plus, I am not really the cute little critter type.  That is not to say I am against cute critters...sometimes you just can't help yourself but fall in love when something is just so darn cute!  I just don't tend to naturally gravitate towards creating in that vein...  So, trying to decide what to make for my stamp has been tough!  I thought a feather was pretty versatile and a stamp I would reuse given my propensity towards fabrics featuring birds.

I was pretty impressed with myself until...the inking part came!  Does this look like a feather to you?  I'm second guessing myself.  Agh!  Maybe it is my choice in ink color, I think black might be a better choice for this design.  But, I think my partner would like color.

Does my feather look like a feather...or...ugh, I hate to even mention it lest it taint your perspective...does it look too much like a...leaf?

Any stamp subject matter suggestions are greatly welcome!
