The stockings were hung by the chimney with care...

So...as I've said time and time again math is NOT my strong suit.  No big surprise then that I woke up in a panic the other night as I realized that we would have 6 at Christmas...and I only have 5 stockings.  Imagine deer in the headlights look NOW.

Here are my five stockings in all their unhung glory.  Not your traditional stockings by any means...
5 Stockings

They are made with upholstery fabric with lots of tassels and beaded embellishments.  And each one is lined with a quilted satin fabric.  Yum! Talk about decadent.  They complement the Antique and Vintage furniture I love so much. I bought them long before the idea of children had ever entered my mind and in recent years I have been feeling that they are a tad stuffy for my squishes.  I grew up with hand knit stockings in traditional red, white, green with Santa Claus theme.  The best thing about them was that because they were knit they kind of grew as things were stuffed inside!  The Mr.'s family stockings are made of felt with cute little symbols on them to differentiate each person's personality (drum, teddy bear, kitten, mine has a sewing machine on it...)

BUT...the Mr. really likes our current stockings so I haven't found support in my attempts to replace them with more child friendly stockings.  Hmmph.

Since it doesn't seem like I am going to get very far in this argument with the person who happens to hold the purse strings...I've decided to work around the problem.  :p  Instead of replacing ALL of my old stockings (which will happen eventually, mark my words) I've decided to make a few new stockings in this upholstery vintage style for the girls that will be more child friendly instead.  For the first stocking I've chosen classic Christmas Colors - Red and White.

Stayed tuned for later this week when I'll have Miss E's stocking finished!

Linking up to Rainbow Hare Quilt's Making Christmas!  What kind of stockings, if any, do you use?  Any family traditions?

Our stockings are all made out of red felt. Each has the person's name on the front out of white felt and then different things (a Christmas tree, bell, star, candy candy, etc.) scattered around and embellished with sequins and beads. They are all based on the one someone made me as a child. Sometimes I would like a more updated set of stockings but these are really sentimental to me. And like you, I realized I didn't have enough, since we now have a new 2-month-old grandson. I need to start on his stocking this week!

I love the little curled toes. Cute. Just needs bells on the ends. :)

Well I know what you mean about nice child friendly stockings but then I agree with the Mr these are all rather wonderful...Maybe the new ones can be THE Christmas Stockings and these ones can phases into Christmas decorations - fab hanging in a line up the stairs, if you have spindles, perhaps...

We always used to lose Christmas Stockings and I had to quickly make new ones on Christmas Eves out of whatever I could find! But I've dug out a collection for this year so I'll post pictures at some point. Really my children are too old for them - 20,20,22,24 and 25 yrs. If anyone deserves one I think it's me :)

I'll show you mine if you show me yours! Hahaha... my mister and I went without stockings last year, our first married christmas. Can't let that continue! I found a quilting cotton that looks like linen and and working on 'em today.

We had pillow cases rather than stockings as children (well, up until I left home if truth be told!!) and now we have gift bags...doesn't stop Mam putting the occasional present in the wrong bag though! Love the stockings and I can't wait to see what Miss E's looks like!

Love these!! They're so vintage looking, really cute! Funnily we had pillow cases too, although in recent years I think my mum got some cheap ones from the pound shop but she did embroider our names on them :)

We had pillow cases too! Perhaps it`s an English thing. I have to say I`m with the Mr. and love your vintage style grown up stockings...and I have to make one for my little one soon, which will have to be ridiculously modern. Yikes! Hope you are well Rebecca and sorry to have been an absentee. I`m back now. Smiles from M`kech.

We had the felt/red furry-fleecy stockings. BUT, I like your vintage-feel curly toe stocktings, too. I think you might have hit the nail on the head by mixing the two styles. Can't wait to see the finished pic! :o)
