{Miss V decided if I was going to do a photoshoot of her then it was only proper to include a portrait of her loveys as well.}

The below zero weather we have been experiencing resulted in a dinner table discussion about frostbite and the importance of hats and scarves.  It reminded me of the hood/cowl patterns I had purchased for each girl from The Velvet Acorn.  I particularly liked these patterns because they cover the head and the neck area...functioning more like a cowl than just a regular hat.  

This particular bunny hood was for Miss O, size 12-18mo from the pattern, but it is a rather large for 12-18 mos and falls over her eyes so she has refused to wear it.  Luckily Miss V, age 3, was willing to demonstrate the hood for me and be my model...

I am debating which size to make for Miss V, the 12-18 seems perfect right now but I'd like her to be able to use it next year.  Perhaps the toddler size will be just right to grow into.  I'll let you know!

Celebrate Color Hood

I am a girl of Summer.  Give me the sweet and sticky hot days of scorching sun. When the humidity is so thick that it feels like a warm wet blanket is wrapped around you.  The type of heat that causes you to stay still because moving just makes the heat worse.  I was born in the summer so maybe that explains my fondness for it.  Or maybe it is because it is only an intense dragging heat that forces me to pause and take a break.  Perhaps it is simply because I have no greater love than driving with the windows down while the hot summer wind whooshes though my hair.

Nevertheless, as Simon & Garfunkel sang "August, die she must..." And each summer as I bid farewell to my warmth, and sun, and Vitamin D, I realize that although I will miss the weather I will not miss the self-doubt that comes with every bathing suit season or the annual can I really pull off shorts this short mental debate.  Nope, when the wind starts blowing colder a wide smile crosses my face at the thought of covering my tank tops with additional layers, piling on the cardigans, breaking out the wool sweaters, the jeans, and the scarves.  Oh the scarves...to wear a snug pair of jeans, white t-shirt, blazer and a scarf?

Hi, my name is Rebecca.  I am a scarf-aholic.  Um, and to be honest, a teensy bit of a jean-aholic too...  Alright!  A HUGE jean-aholic.  As in piles of them in my closet.  I love jeans, the weight of them, the variety, the small details like the embroidery on the bum pockets...

And just like the bits of orange, red, and yellow leaves start popping up amongst their forever Evergreen brethren I too start to bring out pops of color in my wardrobe.  Pink, Green, and Orange amongst the more sedate gray, brown, and blue.  I love layer upon layers with great button and zipper details.

When I read about the Celebrate Color extravaganza over at Stitched in Color I knew exactly which colors I dream of most in the fall.  And, I knew what I needed to add to my Fall Scarf Collection...my ultimate dream...a Cowl Hood Scarf thing-a-ma-bob.  I suppose it is a hood, infinity scarf and a shawl rolled into one.  In other words, the warmest, most scrumptious, soft, wool, all around adaptable accessory for any cold weather walking the dog situation.

Palette: Pink, Orange, Blue, Green, Gray, Brown

Materials: Manos Wool (a fav) which has gorgeous organic flubs and is Soooo Soft

The Knit: A wavy rib which I love so much because  it is reversible and gives two different looks

And the Mr. MRL himself.  I told him he looked like an evil character from Star Wars, he said he was Weapons Dealer.  Whatever he is...it is ridiculous.  I owe him so much for putting up with my photography needs not to mention the yarn that has been everywhere recently.   And to my Squishes, one of whom is now fascinated with YouTube videos about knitting, I am so glad they are beginning to love Fibers as much as their Mommy.  mWah!

I loved this scarf so much I am already making mental plans to create a cotton weight one for the Spring.  Oooooh...in Spring Colors...how yummy...  I wonder what type of knit to use, hmmm...
