LV SWAP III

Modern LV Swap Round III

I've gotten lots of interest in another round of the Modern Low Volume Swap...so Round III anyone?

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SIGNING UP BELOW!!!

This swap will be narrowed to low volume modern fabrics with a large volume of white, simple graphic designs, minimal color combos.  See more details under Fabric Requirements Below!

Screen shot 2013-03-23 at 10.21.59 PM

Fabric requirements:
  1. Two and a half yards (2.5 yds) yards of one (1) designer low volume modern fabric to be cut into 10" charm squares. 2.5 yard = 36 10" blocks (If you are one of those people who makes rotary blunders you might want to consider buying 3 yards in case you make a cutting mistake!)
    1. **You may choose to sign up for 2 Slots which will require you to provide five (5) yards of designer modern fabrics, two and half yards (2.5 yds) of each, to be cut into 10" squares for a total of 72 squares.**
  2. Choose a modern low volume fabric with a graphic print and a large ratio of white.
    1. I am not claiming to be a *Low Volume Expert.*  There are many types of low volume, however, what this swap is concentrating on a very narrow type of Modern Low Volume Fabrics.  Some guidelines or suggestions are below.  If this is not the kind of Low Volume fabric you are interested in then that is cool, however, that means this Swap is Not for You.
      1. Simple Is Best!  [i.e. White + Color = Bingo!  White + Color + Color = Possibly, White + Color + Color + Color? = Probably Too Complex and Not For this Swap.  However, there are exceptions such as this where the design is simple and there is still a lot of WHITE.]
      2. Look into Red Pepper Quilts version of Low Volume here, here, and here.
      3. Safer to seek larger scale prints as the low volume celebrates the large neutral spaces between the print!
  3. ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING YOUR FABRIC!  If you have questions about whether your choice fits the swap then visit the Flickr group where you can post your questions and get feedback from fellow swap members.  Also, you must post to Flickr so that we do not have duplicates.  (Photos on Flickr added after the Round III Logo dated March 11, 2014 as seen above will apply.  Photos predating Round III Logo were from previous swap rounds.)
  4. Fabric should be designer label, 100% cotton, quilt shop quality fabric.  No Hancocks, Joanns or Michael's fabrics. For a fabric swap, the fun is receiving quality fabric that you might not be able to pick up around the corner.
    1. Seriously consider what you would enjoy receiving in a swap.  There is nothing wrong with buying sale fabric - but do not try to fit in a fabric simply because you found it on sale!
    2. We all love our LQS, but again, please do not try to fit in a fabric because it is the only thing available at your LQS.
  5. Pink Castle Discount!  Swap members will receive a discount code for 15% from Pink Castle Fabrics to purchase fabric for this swap!  <Details with code will go out to swap members once the final participants are determined.>
  6. Fabric must be new and unwashed and must come from a smoke free environment.
  7. Upload pictures of your fabric to the swap Flickr group and include the name of the fabric, designer, etc. This ensures that there are no duplicate fabrics chosen and allows everyone to find out more about the fabrics in case they would like to order more once they have received their charms. Before mailing, cut your 2.5 yards into 10" squares.  Press your fabric before cutting. 2.5 yards = 36 10" squares.
  8. Put your fabric into a ziplock bag and include an index card with your name and email address.  I learned the hard way last time, if you don't do this I lose track of who sent what and more importantly if something happens to your package the post office will know where it came from!  You may fold your 10" in half, you will probably need to in order to fit them into the ziplock.
Timeline
The timeline will be updated as soon as we fill all the available spots for this Swap.  The turnaround will be quick though and I predict no more than 1 month.  (My children have spring break and will be visiting Grandparents during this time, I have timed it perfectly, so do not commit if you do not think you will be able to comply with fast turnaround!)  All Swappers, please do your best to get your fabric to me as soon as possible and keep me updated on your progress.  After all, the sooner I receive everyone's fabric the sooner you will get your swap goodies!  A "Received Charms ROUND III" thread will be maintained in the Discussion Section on the Low Volume Swap Flickr group page.

U.S. Shipping:
Include a self-addressed FLAT-RATE envelope for domestic swappers.  There is a bubble version that can be mailed for $5.95.

  • Be sure to put STAMPS and not prepaid postage that is dated in the amount of $5.60 on the outside of your self-addressed return envelope.
  • I Repeat: Make sure this is not a metered mail stamp with the printed date on it
  • Regular stamps are the best way as USPS will not sent out envelops that show a past date.
  • I cannot be responsible for covering postage if you do not use regular stamps.

International Swappers:
1. Fabric Mailed to Hostess
Due to the smaller number of participants in this 10" swap I am offering to have international swappers send their 2.5 yards of fabric directly to me from the store of their choice.  I will cut it on your behalf (and let's hope I don't mess up!  Ha!)  If you'd like to exercise that option please let me know so I can factor in the time it will take me to cut everything.  (Round III potential tweak: I may have local swappers from my Guild be my swap assistants.  I may pair you with my Guild member to do your cutting.  Will depend on the willingness of volunteers/number of international swappers!)

2. Shipping Overseas:
Participants from other countries and/or overseas need to pay through PayPal for the shipping cost. Packaging size and weight make a difference so participants will need to take that into account when figuring the shipping cost.  I will weigh each international package and calculate the postage price for each destination using USPS.  I will bill each participant through PayPal using a money request. Note that there are extra charges to me  [2.9% + $0.30] if the Participant uses a debit or credit card instead of a PayPal account to send the money so that will be factored into the shipping cost.

Flickr
You must be a member of Flickr to post your fabric and share with other swappers.

  • Visit the Low Volume Swap Flickr group to share your fabric choices and ask questions.
  • Also, I'd love to see what you might be planning on doing with your charms so please share!
  • When I begin receiving fabric I will have a thread on this group indicating whose charms have been received, therefore it is important that you check back to the group frequently!

I'm in. Only 1 yard? not 2 or 3?

You are right 2 yards is much better! Then you can throw in some solids of your own and have a nice sized quilt...

If there is still space I would be happy to be in, but would also like to know if I can ship directly to you when I buy the fabric and then PayPal you extra money for a shipping envelope.

I filled the form and I hope there is both room and that I can send the fabric your way to be sliced and diced.

I signed up for the swap but since the link was through bloglovin I'm not sure I trust it (my comments never seem to show up, in fact this is my second attempt at this one so sorry of you get it twice). Please let me know if you did not get my entry. Thanks!
