Quick and Simple Rainbow

Untitled
A few days ago I was standing in my studio feeling overwhelmed by this list and unmotivated to jump in.  Sometimes I am faced with a smothering feeling of "why bother, I won't finish it anyway..."  Such is the oppressive feeling I have when I look at my unfinished Marcelle Medallion which has taken up an almost permanent residence on my design wall...  Sigh.

So, I decided to follow my gut, ignore my daunting list and do something quick, easy, simple.  I grabbed a Kona Cotton New Bright Pattern Jellyroll and whipped up a rainbow.  After all, who can really argue against the beauty of a rainbow or the simplicity of a strip quilt?

Marcelle is still there...beautifully patient...she knows I will get to her when I am damn good and ready!

Your gut was totally right. Simple, or simply beautiful?

Totally the right thing to do. Gorgeous!

I had this exact same dilemma just a month or so ago. Too many things to do and all of them just not right. So I made a giant star quilt, quick easy and I got to play with fabric. Made me feel much better. You have to go with your gut!

Sometimes we need the quick and easy to give us the strength to tackle the large and difficult! Good job listening to your gut :)

And I'm willing to bet that having gotten to stretch your quilting muscles you're more inspired to work on Marcelle? Sometimes I just need to do something simple. Big long term slow projects are wonderful and satisfying and great and all, but sometimes it feels like you work and work and they're still there!! A nice fun sew and the sewjo comes bouncing back!! Who can't be pumped with rainbows?? :-)

It's lovely and I want one too. I have been working on what kind of projects I can have handy when I just want to sew, and don't want to fuss. This is exactly that kind of project. If you are not making the medallion take it down off the wall. See if you want to put it back up or maybe you need to work on something else first. This is supposed to be a fun hobby, not a chore and not guilt ridden.

love the photo w/the tiny legs holding an Ariel phone. I see that kind of thing around here too and you can't help but "Ahhh,"

Gah! Too funny considering my 'slow' blog post! Maybe you should send me the marcelle and I'll send you my pre-cuts! Seriously that is such a simple but beautiful top and I know I will need that same rush of accomplishment after a time of slowness. You picked the perfect roll! Maybe now you should hand quilt it ;)

Gorgeous colors -- someone was playing hide and seek? :)

This post could be me talking about my MATO, for real. Your rainbow is glorious though. I think y should totally wait till you feel excited about your marcelle again before tackling it.

I love this rainbow! I think Leanne is right - take down Marcelle for the moment (or surround her with other projects/pieces of fabric, etc. to distract the eye...and the guilt!) and wait until you are ready to work on her again - that time will come, even if you can't see it at the moment.

Love the simplicity of the quilt even though it is still striking!
