I was recently doing some Flickr stalking when Nicky invited me to check out the Stamp it Up Swap. And, because I am game to try anything at least once (okay, not bungee jumping-type things, but textile-type things anyway) I decided to give it a go!
My biggest challenge is figuring out the subject matter for my stamp. Everyone else is making these cute things and I am just stumped. Plus, I am not really the cute little critter type. That is not to say I am against cute critters...sometimes you just can't help yourself but fall in love when something is just so darn cute! I just don't tend to naturally gravitate towards creating in that vein... So, trying to decide what to make for my stamp has been tough! I thought a feather was pretty versatile and a stamp I would reuse given my propensity towards fabrics featuring birds.
I was pretty impressed with myself until...the inking part came! Does this look like a feather to you? I'm second guessing myself. Agh! Maybe it is my choice in ink color, I think black might be a better choice for this design. But, I think my partner would like color.
Does my feather look like a feather...or...ugh, I hate to even mention it lest it taint your perspective...does it look too much like a...leaf?
Any stamp subject matter suggestions are greatly welcome!

I think you've very cleverly made a stamp that can double as either a feather or a leaf! I guess it would depend on ink colour but I think it's awesome either way!
I thought it was a definite feather... until you mentioned a leaf. Um... can it be both? What will you do with it? Will context make it more obvious?
Anyway, I really, really like it. And, no to black - the orange is lovely.
Just looking at the stamp, I got feather. I honestly think the leaf bit is partly because of the orange. What if you pick a grey blue?
It's a great feather! And those are hard to do, I'm impressed with your skillz.
I've been really digging the block print thing going on lately and I'd love to borrow that when you're done with it if its just going to sit around somewhere!
Actually this is what I saw a couple months ago that peaked my interest

Wow - if I am your secreat partner (and I hope I am 'coz that is awesome) maybe a journal/notebook cover or a key chain with the feather on it? GORGEOUS!
Feather to me... Fantastic.. Must get on to mine...
It's a beautiful feather and would look incredible in midnight blue! Or peacock bluey green!
I was surprised to read the comments above, because to me, it is definitely a Leaf; a great leaf I might add! I'm waiting to find out what my honey thinks (just sent him the pic).
I see a feather, and I guess the artist in you wanted to make a more realistic feather not so stylized and that is why it looks a bit like a leaf too. Feathers and leaves have many similarities, that is the way it is.The shape may look different depending on context and colour too. I love it, by the way, and let you partner enjoy it as whatever she sees.
It's a FEATHER!! LOL Yes, I agree with the others that mentioned color...it might look more like what you envisioned in a different color, but I definitely see a feather, not a leaf! Love it!
I see a feather and think it's great!!
I'm really impressed with the fantastic job you did making a stamp :) it definitely looks like a feather to me
Looks like a feather to me and I love the orange. Nice job!
Now this is a FEATHER! Wonderful project Rebecca! Makes me want to do the rubber stamp thing....but don't think I could make a feather or a leaf.
Above I was commenting on your new feather version shown in today's email "Thought Process."
