FMQ WIP

Patiently trying... #fmqbeginnerSkipped stitches...sigh. Too much spray basting?
I am in a quilting mood after completing the quilting on Above All Pink so I decided I needed to keep that motivation going and try to tackle another quilt top I have had lying around for awhile...  This time I decided to take on some free motion quilting.  Instead of pinning I spray basted, something I am not overly experienced with, because I didn't want to have to navigate my beginning FMQ skills AND the pins at the same time!  But, even after changing my needle, cleaning out my machine, rethreading, and doing all of those god things you need to do when something is funky with your sewing...I was still getting the occasional skipped stitch!  I googled it, of course, and came across this helpful post from Kati at Swim, Bike, Quilt.  I am thinking I should change my spray basting brand and also spray a little less heavy handedly...

Back to the drawing board!  Unpicking and deciding whether I am going to make a new attempt or do something completely different.  Hmmph.

I love the quilting. I'd like to try my hand at that type. I will be needing some practice though. I'm sure getting it symmetrical will be hard.

Ugh. I hate when that happens - it's so frustrating. I hope it gets fixed! I love the quilting though.

Unpicking quilting sucks. I feel for you.

Keep at it. Skipped stitches are the pits! Definately give that pattern another whirl!

I love the way that FMQ looks you are very brave as I'm too critical of my quilting thus far to try outside my comfort zone....I think yours looks wonderful, keep going!

Ugh. I had this happen to me too with both my FMQ and walking foot! I was devasted when I found out it could be because of the spray baste because I loved using it! It only started happening when I bought a different brand (higher quality - more expensive) too. I've gone back to pin basting now, which is a pain but I think I'd prefer to suffer through that than the frustration of all the skipped stitches :(

Moving around pins isn't any fun and I'm a convert to 505 but never knew about the link between skipped stitch and being heavy handed with the can - I'll have to watch for that. Your quilting looks great despite the need to pick

Frogging with you except mine is on a customer's quilt and I decided to change the quilting design I was doing! It has taken me almost 8 hours to frog a 15" block of echo quilting around applique! This is when I wish I used 8 stitches to the inch, not 12!!! I don't know how anyone quilts on a DSM - just amazing that anyone can do more then a straight line!! You rock!

The party's over (for a while) when you have to unpick stitches! What basting spray did you use? I spray baste all my quilts but still pin around the perimeter, for extra stability. I can't imagine going back to pin basting...
