Pattern Giveaway: Infinity Scarf

If you've been following MRL recently then you know I've gotten a bit hooked on these scarves.  I am just in love with the infinity scarf and, typical for me, I had to add a hood too...  It is so versatile and I've made mine so that I can also use it as a nursing cover when out and about with Miss O.  I had so much interest in the scarves that I thought I'd write up a pattern!

I've included three infinity scarf styles in the pattern - after all getting a 3 in 1 pattern is worth so much better than just 1 style don't you think?

The Skinny: a thinner summery infinity scarf created with 3 fat quarters
The Hood: a wider infinity scarf that can be used as a hood or a shawl
The Mama: the mama of them all, scarf, hood, shawl, and a nursing cover

Untitled
Yeah - I'm looking a bit dramatic here sporting the shawl.

In case you don't recognize her this is none other than Lucy from CharmAboutYou.com  This is Lucy modeling The Skinny.  Thanks so much to Lucy who test drove my pattern and sent me some amazing pictures to use...isn't she a stunning pregnant mama?

PATTERN GIVEAWAY

Three Ways to Enter - Simply Answer...

1. What three fabrics would you use to create an infinity scarf?
2. What do you consider when purchasing a pattern...cost/clarity/likelihood of multiple uses?
3. Follow me and let me know, not a requirement but mad kudos if you do.  ;)

Winner of Giveaway will be chosen October 7, 2012.  Good Luck!

The pattern is also available for sale. Visit my Etsy store Shop Rebecca Lynne here.  I am cool with people using the patterns to create scarves to sell, I only ask that you give credit to Shop Rebecca Lynne when you sell a scarf from my pattern.

The store is quite bare bones right now, however I plan on adding destash soon as I prepare for our impending move.  I've a pile of yummy scraps from my latest projects just waiting to be photographed and added to Shop Rebecca Lynne's inventory!

Thursday Think Tank Reboot?

Thursday Think Tank
Is this totally blasphemous or what...I'm thinking of changing Thursday Think Tank.  [The blasphemy isn't the thought, it is the fact that I am writing this on a Thursday Think Tank post.  Kind of disrespectful to TTT, yes?]

I kind of want to do something fun.  Like interview artists and post it on Thursday, or get a poll of what music you all listen to while you create, or I don't know...as usual I have a ton of ideas...  What do you think?  I don't want to abandon TTT but maybe it needs a facelift.

WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR THINK TANK THIS WEEK?
HERE ARE THE RULES!

  1. Link up any post from the past week that features some creative thinking going on in your creative world.   It can be anything, quilting, home improvement, fashion, crafting, DIY gifts, cooking...whatever you have recently thought "hmmm, you know what I should create" is perfectly appropriate for the Think Tank.  TTT is all about whatever you are currently brainstorming and would like feedback or encouragement on!
  2. Somewhere in your post, link back here to my blog. (Or grab the T.T.T. button for your sidebar.)
  3. Comment on at least a few of the other links—because what fun is a linky party without comments?

Come back tomorrow as I'll be giving away my pattern for my Infinity Scarf.  It is a 3 in 1 pattern, {The Skinny, The Hood, and The Mama}, there are three designs to choose from all in one packet!

My Really Random Thursday: Now that Miss O is almost 4 mo old my hair is starting to fall out in clumps.  Sigh, this happened after every pregnancy.  That gorgeous thick glossy hair, a by product of pregnancy hormones, literally falls by the wayside as the hormones are depleted.  AGH!!!  Luckily, I still have my pregnancy chest.  Hahahahahahaa!

WIP Advice

Untitled
I've been working on this rainbow yumminess as some of you have seen over the past week or so.  My idea is based on the awesome book Scrap Republic...you can see the Flickr site for the book here and check out this photo by Emily Cier below.  The quilt I am working on is like the 2nd from the left called "Plumb".   However, I am a bit stuck.
Beeline, Plumb, Slices, Freckles in Scraps from Scrap Republic
You see...in the book's quilt the rainbow block is a bit larger than my block and the border is a bunch of scrappy low volume strips.  Hmmm...because my rainbow block is smaller I'm trying to figure out how to make a larger quilt.  Why not make a small quilt?  Uh, because I can't make Miss E a tiny quilt she wants a big one!

This has been one of those creative conundrums that has been distracting me at all times.  You know the kind.  I wake up in the morning thinking about it.  I drive to work thinking about it.  I go to bed thinking about it.  I keep asking the Mr. his opinion - yeah you can imagine a) how far that has gotten me and b) how unpopular this line of questioning has become.  Heh.

So what should I do?  Here is what I am thinking.  Ultimately I want to it be modern, I'm not really a fan of the traditional border thing, and anyway if I center the rainbow block it just looks funny because it is too small.  [Block is 27" and I am aiming for 46"]  I'm thinking of going asymmetrical...and instead of scrappy strips I am thinking all white so that the rainbow is really the focus.
To visualize my idea I pinned the square to the back of a white backed quilt to test my theory out!

But of course, taking photos was a struggle with this quilt in progress.  Even the wind was against me.
Untitled
And it began sliding...Untitled
And continued sliding...Untitled
Until it finally schlumped...in a pile...on my deck...Untitled
But even as it lay there...it still looked SCRUMPTIOUS!  Haha!
Untitled
Okay okay in all seriousness.  Doesn't this look like it has potential?  The more I look at these pictures the more I like it.  I think I am going to go for it.  White asymmetrical border...makes my quilt bigger, rainbow is still the focal, and it still looks delicious.  What do you think?  Yay or Nay?

Hmmmm...now about the border...

Anniversary Winner!

Untitled

Did you think I forgot?  Ah shucks...no I didn't!  I'm just a procrastinator and a crazily run around with my head cut off like a chicken type of busy person.  Hahahahaa...

Before the drum roll and winner announcement (although I'm sure 90% of you already skipped ahead to see who has won haven't you...why am I asking...if you have you won't even be reading this!) I just wanted to say how AWESOME it was to read that I'd say 95% of you told me that you follow my blog from GFC and read via Google Reader.  How freaking cool is that?

Alright I'm shutting my trap...the giveaway from Sew Fresh Fabrics goes to...

Carolyn at Sew.Darn.Quilt!  Congrats Carolyn!  Thanks for being a reader!!!

Many of you bloggers know what it is to create something and then still find the energy to take decent photos and write coherently about it later.  Over the last year I've found blogging to be a *responsibility* of sorts and knowing there are people out there who find anything I say at all worthy of reading is pretty ridiculously amazing to say the least.  I know I read other blogs to find inspiration and creative support, I hope some of you find that when you peruse MRL.

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT FIRST  YEAR AT MRL!

Double Trouble [TGIFF]

Anyone remember these summer quilts I was making? Yes yes they are finished!
It has been raining so unfortunately these glamour shots are taken inside...in a yellow room...
The quilts are for my very good friend's twins. One boy, one girl. And as this friend was someone who was always a huge fan of buying my girls fuzzy soft feeling gifts I had to use a soft fuzzy backing for these patchwork cuties!
Miss O decided she had to test this theory of soft fuzzy wuzzy backings....

She gives it a thumbs up. Hahahahaa....

Office Armoire [Thursday Think Tank]

Been dreaming a lot about the things I'd like to do if we move into a new house.  Ah, the ideas I have...  For instance I'd really love to own this office armoire.  Gorgeous!
But...at a sticker price of $3,000 I don't want to pay for it.

What is a girl to do?

Build one herself perhaps?

The internet is a wonderful thing.  I began researching and found out how to build a computer armoire - as in build the armoire from scratch.  Eh, not sure I want to be that much of a DIYer.  So then I looked up how to convert an armoire into a computer desk.  Did you know that you can buy a keyboard drawer?  Who knew?

Now I all I have to do is start stalking Craigslist to find a kick*&# armoire!

Heh heh...

I'm excited.  Can you tell?

How about you?  What is your Think Tank this week?

A Charmed Life

Untitled
Isn't that a beautiful stack?  Mmmm hmmm...a beautiful stack of 12 Low Volume Fabrics that needs to be cut into 56 5" charms.
Silent Pause.
Ha!
This post is about motivation as the stack (above) grows smaller...and the stack of charms (below) gets higher!
Untitled
 One Set of 56
Untitled
Two Sets of 56
Untitled
And when I began with my high stack of gorgey fabric Miss E says "Mommy are you making today?"  Yes, my Inquisitive One I am...   She leaves...  Later on, while I am photographing my One Set of 56 she returns, she shows me this drawing and says "I'm making too Mommy.  See? Aren't you going to take a picture?"  Then, no joke jake, she says "Mommy can I touch your fabric? [touches] Oooh nice Mommy very soft."

That is when I know that torturing my husband with fabric everywhere is absolutely worth it.

:P

Keep your eyes out as the stack grows higher in this week's posts - ha, I hope!

Clean House [Thursday Think Tank]

I've been thinking a lot about cleaning lately.  How I can stay on top of it, where to begin, and is it even possible?  Ha!  Why all this concern?  Well...we are seriously close to, if all goes well I don't want to jinx it, moving into a new home.  So...I want to have a good cleaning regimen.  A fresh start for our new place!

I'm a bit of a clutter person (cough cough) so I am not sure if I can actually pull it off...but I am going to dry my damn hardest!  I want my girls to learn to at least some good habits.  Any tips anyone can give me?

Speaking of being a mom check out this article...what do you think?

This Think Tank is pretty random for me this week so I'm hooking up to Really Random Thursday.

Catch Up If You Can

Fearless Duck Hunter
Shot of my fearless duck hunter!  Picture taken at Congress Park in Saratoga Springs.  We had an awesome weekend away...  Saratoga is hands down my favorite place.  I miss it!

DSC_0077
Unfortunately I am swamped both at work and at home.  I seriously can't find my desk at work I have so much crap to catch up on!   Luckily, I was able to start Miss E's rainbow quilt.  She is thrilled!
More mail!!!
And my apologies to all of my LV Swappers out there.  The mail piled up over my weekend away and I have not opened it yet!  I know, what restraint right?  This picture above of a pile three packages deep was from last Thursday and today the pile is literally six packages higher.  Ridiculous!  But by the time I come home {have dinner, give baths, and put everyone in bed} I am just not up to it.  I am looking forward to savoring the fabric so I don't want to just rip them all open without sunlight to photograph them!

Am I a Drama Queen or what.

But hey, can you blame me?  I love fabric and I want to give it the respect it deserves...

MRL Anniversary Giveaway!

Untitled
Today is my 5 year wedding anniversary.  5 years married almost 15 years together...
Whew hew!

It is also my 1 year, 2 months, and 1 day blogging anniversary at makingrebeccalynne.com

I was writing a year in review blog post documenting some of my favorite posts over my first year.  The things I've learned, the things I've enjoyed, the things I've disliked...but whenever I sat down to finish this list I can't seem to encapsulate everything.

Instead, I've decided not to try.

Instead, I'll tell you that over all I've really loved blogging MRL.  Even though it is a lot of work, takes time, and requires a lot of diligence, I would never trade the people I've met, the support I've found, the inspiration I've discovered in our awesome blogging DIY community.

For Example, when I picked out this bundle of FQs at Sew Fresh Fabrics I excitedly told Peg at Sew Fresh Fabrics that I was buying it to post as a blog anniversary giveaway bundle.  I never expected her generosity when she decided to send me the bundle for free!!!

My Point?  Celebrate Loud and Celebrate Often...Share Your Ups with others when you have them and Help Others Through Their Downs.  And more importantly...

HELLO! GO CHECK OUT SEW FRESH FABRICS.  GO!  RIGHT NOW!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow [Thursday Think Tank]

With the low volume swap stuff going on I have been thinking a lot about the last swap I was in organized by Kati at From the Blue Chair

The Color Wheel Charm swap left me with a bunch of gorgeous colorful squares.

However, I am just not that good with color.  So...I turned to Emily Cier's Scrap Republic for some guidance!Untitled
Then I took all those lovely charms from Kati's swap and I divided them into 6 groups.  Untitled

My goal is to create a lovely quilt for Miss E who recently asked me to make her a special blanket.  Now what DIY Mother wouldn't melt at a request like that?  Seriously - I challenge you not to comply!

And because my first born is going through that phase all children go through when their favorite color changes day to day a rainbow quilt is in a word PERFECT!

Farewell to Summer with...

Summersville Charm Pack

As an early birthday present a few weeks ago I received this adorable Summersville charm pack from my mother-in-law.  I immediately was inspired to make something cute even cuter!

Cutting done

Two and a half inch square stack of Summersville adorableness.

I've created this six inch panel, sixty inches long, of fresh summer.

I plan on finishing the black frame and placing the strip within a solid muslin background.  Simple, basic, minimal and as fresh as a bright summer morning...
