Small Blog Meet, Sigh #3!

Front Story

A friend once told me that our lives are never complete.  That really...life is a piece of artwork that we are constantly editing, changing, and continually improving as we grow.  I think he is right.  I keep making rebecca lynne, my life and original artwork.

I've never been able to define myself as one type of person.  I'm a ceramist, musician, textile artist, jewelry designer, lawyer, avid reader, technology geek, partner in crime (wife), creator of life (mommy of two), lover of shabby chic, collector of whatever I'm into in a particular moment, dreamer of a thousand projects, and over analyzer of all things.

I aim to make my life and the life of my daughters beautiful one project at a time.

Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else.
The trick is the doing something else.

If you are visiting from Lily's Quilts please leave me a comment and I'd LOVE to come meet you and your blog!

Thank you so much for stopping in!

Small Blog Meet

Back Story
Well, I am more than a bit embarrassed to admit it...but this is my THIRD SMALL BLOG MEET with Lily's Quilts and Making Rebecca Lynne is still under 50 Followers.    Hahahahahaa...wait please, don't let that turn you off, before you go running and screaming from my blog please see what I have to say! [You can read my last two introductory posts here and here.]

Some blogs I visit jumped to over 50 followers literally overnight, others still linger far below.  Is this a commentary on what is good or bad?  I don't think so...but who am I to judge?  I'm shocked MRL has made even close to 50 Followers!  My sense of style hasn't always been exactly on the side of what is popular (cough) so blogland shouldn't really be any different.  What I do think is that it is important as a blogger to decide what you are trying to get out of your blog.  Is it popularity, a fan base, sponsors, exposure, friends, community, inspiration, feedback?

Aside: I'm afraid I am opening up a can of very ugly worms here...but I am a pretty in your face person so I can't help but speak my mind.  (hmmm, maybe that explains a lot)  I've deleted this bit 3x but I can't help it, I keep putting it back in!

After some recent conversations with Helen from Archie the Wonder Dog about Followers/Subscribers I've been doing some soul searching to decide what is important to me and why I blog.

If you are still with me and care to know, here are my conclusions:
I joined blogland because I really want to share my creativity.  I have recently moved very far away from my friends and I wanted my creative friends from my past to comment and be kept abreast of what I am creating now.  I also want to meet New Creatives via the internet.  I want to feel a sense of community that I am not exposed to as an artist in the middle of nowhere with no artistic friends nearby.  There is no Modern Guild around here and I'd like to learn more and explore more modern quilting as much as possible via the internet.  In less than three months I have already learned so much and met some amazing people and feel so lucky to have met these awesome creative individuals (you know who you are!).  Mine might not be the biggest or prettiest blog but I'd like to think it is unique in its own way and hopefully by sharing my artistic triumphs and failures it will help enrich your own work just as I know yours will enrich mine.

I am not trying to win a popularity contest but I would like to meet new folks who feel the same about fabric and art, so honestly from the bottom of my heart thank you for stopping in and reading this far.  (ha!)  If you think you agree with my quirky and often sassy point of view I hope we can get to know each other better and I'd love to learn more about you!

Hehe totally agree with you and Kristastitched!! I don't do mine to be popular I need support because none of my RL friends are into patchwork or quilting. I enjoy feedback from other quilters too good and bad! I enjoy sharing what I make with others too and journalling the process. I believe it is a good process. love your style and your blog so will be following for that reason! xxx

You're not alone! This is also my third month doing the link up and I'm no where near 50. I haven't thought too much about it though because I know I'm a little different, have a variety of interests that are not solely quilting related, and really haven't had much time to make anything. I've noticed that the blogs with more followers have lots of finishes and are active in swaps or bees. I just don't have that kind of time right now. Just desire, but that doesn't produce much without the other. ;)

Anyway... I didn't mean to keep on rambling here. It's nice to "meet" you, Rebecca!

You're at 50!! Didn't you promise #50 a prize a while back? (Man! I should have unfollowed for a while in an attempt to re-follow and be #50!) I started blogging b/c something creative was lacking in my life..I like to use my blog as an online scrapbook, kind of. And I underestimated the kinship and friendship that I would find with fellow bloggers. Mine was one of the ones that jumped overnight when I joined the SBM.. I have no idea why.. I feel woefully inadequate and untalented when I see what other people are able to do in such short amts of time, but nevertheless, I love to look at all of the pictures and read everyone's blogs. You are one of my favorite blog friends that I found on SBM!! Look forward to your sassy frankness and your posts/comments/emails. Doesn't matter how many followers, just matters how much you enjoy it, the inspiration you get, and the friends you make along the way. :) Still sniffling that I joined too soon, and didn't get to win a prize.. haha

I've come over from Lily's SBM but I already feel like I know you ;) I've followed you for a little while but I love everything you do, how you speak you mind and all the gorgeous goodies you make. You will be big in blogland whether you like it or not. Just hope you remember the little people when you do ;)
I started mine because I want to share my love of quilting, learn from others, make friends, get inspiration and get better at what I do!!
That follower number just keeps climbing and yeah you should have a giveaway ;)

Thanks for the visit to my blog - I'm taking my first peek at yours and it looks just lovely. I will be a follower.... :)

I have been blogging for about 9 months now. I don't have a huge amount of followers, but those that I do have a truly lovely people, who will comment on what they think. Its quality not quantity and as you say, you are blogging for you :-)

Love your posts, don't much care for Runy, I guess I'm too old. Keep on truckin'.

Hmm you've got me thinking now, never a good thing-it takes too much wine!
I blog because no one I know in real life honestly gives a stuff about fabric and quilting unless it's something made for them, other than my guy but lets be real here I could make an utter load of crap and he'd tell me it was a brilliant load of crap bless him.
I blog so I can chat to others about quilting and fabric, occasionally have a whinge if a pattern is getting the better of me, to get a fresh point of view, also as a way to go back over the things I've made and gifted to people...and lately to admit my confusion of the Doctor Who plot line :)
Do I blog to get followers? No I don't but yes it feels good to know that someone out there is interested in what I'm making :)

Rebecca! You sassy minx! You already know that I am a fan, but it doesn't hurt to say it again. You wrote exactly what I frequently think.

Haha, Sassy minx! I love it!! You ARE sassy, and quite talented and sweet and I'm so glad you are blogging or we would have never "met".

Hi Rebecca! I'm so encouraged by your honesty, I've been aiming for the same thing in my blog, and thinking about the same kinds of things. Thanks for sharing them with us! Glad to be following and looking forward to getting to know you!

Rebecca, I'm glad I found you - I'm a follower, although that honestly means nothing for me, since I don't "follow" blogs that way. It's just a vote, a way to show support. What's more important is that I put you in my Must Reads folder in Google Reader (weeks ago!). That's how I truly "follow" blogs. When I can't keep up with the regular Reader blogs, I still check the Must Reads daily. There are 174 unread posts in Reader now - none are Must Reads.

I blog because... well, awful as it sounds, because I like to hear myself talk. I like sharing information and helping others, but I also like telling people what to do. I'm a terrible person, LOL! (I can't believe I just typed LOL.) Blogging started as a personal journal three years ago, but quickly morphed into a quilt-focused endeavor. At this point, I am not using my blog to make money and I'm ambivalent about the idea anyway. I like the idea of keeping a public personna out there in case I do try to pursue some form of quilting-for-profit, though.

I enjoy your blog because you do different things and you have opinions. Keep it up!

I came here as soon as I read your post in my Reader, so I could tell you how much I like your blog and how you have encouraged me and to keep on truckin' as long as you are having fun. I'm so glad all these other nice people wrote too -- because I'm glad to see you got some support, and because I'm glad to see other people like me!

I'm #54!! Happy to follow you! I know how you feel though, I have 3 followers and I of them is me LOL. This is my first time linking up, so I'm crossing my fingers. I blog because I like to, but it does get lonely when no one comments or follows. I'll get them in time, I'm sure :D

Great post!! I think you know me too well already but I will say that I love your blog and plenty of other people do too! So glad I read Sandi's comment - I've been wanting a way to sort out my 'want to read every post as soon as it's published' blogs from my 'I like to read them when I can' blogs and it seems there's a way to do it - must investigate!!

P.S. Up to 55 - you can't join in next month ;o)

All of us are the same - ordinary women who like to make stuff. I love how blogs (of all sizes) bring us together. Thanks for sharing from your heart in this post.

Love your honesty!!! This is my first Small Blog Meet and my last as with one more I'll be up to 50. Acquiring followers, (or friend stacking as my family would say on FB) is most definitely NOT why I blog. It is nice, however, to know that what I write is read by a few people. That's why I love it when people take the time to leave a comment.

Count me in on the way you are thinking...I love visiting blogs and seeing new ideas and I always try to leave a comment, but sometimes I am short on time. I have really enjoyed my visit to your blog.
